Try stippling to create a background.

How to:

1
Sketch your letters in pencil. Then sketch a border around them. This will create the white space between the stippling and the letters.

2
Trace letters with a Micron pen. (Don’t trace the border.)

3
Stipple the background. I chose a triangle shape, adding heavier stippling towards the top. Avoid the area within the pencil border.

4
Erase all pencil marks.
