Try using a clear Glaze pen as a watercolor resist.

Here’s a fun technique to try: write your lettering with a clear Glaze pen. It’s a little tricky to see, but if you have a good light source and tilt your paper, the glossy ink will catch the light. I found that thicker lettering strokes worked best.

Allow the ink to dry, then paint over it with watercolor. The areas with the Glaze will remain white.
