DIY Accented Envelopes

Why not make envelopes that are as special as the card inside? Craft adorable handmade envelopes using this free template and Sakura markers.

Tips:

1
I’m using colorful copy paper for this. I bought the sheets individually for a few cents apiece from a local copy shop, but you can also purchase larger packages from stores that sell office supplies.

2
These envelopes fit the most standard size of homemade card, 5.5 x 4.25 inches. (You can make two cards this size by cutting a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper in half widthwise.)

How to:

1
Begin by printing the two page template. One page is the envelope and the other is the liner. Print on contrasting papers for a surprise pop of color.

2
Cut out the templates along the black lines. You can start embellishing the paper now, or you can wait until it’s folded. To assemble the envelope, fold inward along the dotted lines.

3
Use a glue stick to adhere the liner to the inside of the envelope. Add glue along the diagonal bottom edges of the envelope, and adhere the flaps together.

Embellishing the Envelopes

1
I like to use Sakura’s Permapaque® markers on these envelopes because the shades are true even on darker colors. For example, when I use the yellow marker on this blue paper, the ink doesn’t appear green the way most markers do. It stays a bright, vibrant yellow. The Permapaque®   markers have dual tips, so you can fill in small or large areas easily.

2
I like to outline doodles and letters with a black Pigma® Micron® pen.

3
Another marker that works well is Sakura’s Pentouch®. Mimic chalkboard lettering with the white pen, or add shine with a gold Pentouch®.
