Watercolor Resist Lettering

Lately I’ve been experimenting with different mediums for hand-lettering. This one features a watercolor resist.

This project was an interesting experiment! I used a clear Glaze pen to write out the lettering on watercolor paper. Usually I start my hand-lettering projects by sketching them out with a pencil, but when you’re doing a resist like this, you just have to go for it!

You’ll need to sit by a window and tilt the paper so the clear ink catches the light. It’s a bit tricky since the ink is clear, but luckily it’s glossy so you can still see it.

3
Paint over the background with watercolors. I found darker colors worked best. Let dry for a minute.

Using your fingertip, gently blend in the excess paint that’s sitting on top of the letters.
