Tippy Sippy Cup Leash

The Tippy Sippy Leash keeps sippy cups,  bottles, and toys off the floor and within baby’s reach.

How to:

1
Cut a segment of ribbon that is 11 inches long.  Cut another ribbon segment, this one should be 22 inches long.

2
Use a lighter to sear the ends of your ribbon to minimize fraying.

3
You’ll need a D-ring. A pack of four costs about a dollar at Wal Mart. Loop one end of the short ribbon through the D- ring.  Leave some wiggle room for the ring.  Sew in place using a zig zag stitch.  Do this several times for durability.

4
Next take your long ribbon segment and thread it through the loop you just sewed.  Do NOT thread it through the D-ring.  Sew in place.

5
Now we’re going to make a loop out of the free end of the long ribbon.  Fold the end of the ribbon up about five inches.  Sew in place.

6
Now we’ll add the Velcro.  You’ll need two inches of the rough looped side. Lay on top of your short ribbon, matching up the free end of the ribbon with the end of the Velcro segment.  Sew around the edges of the velcro to secure. Use a straight stitch.

7
Now cut four inches of the fuzzy Velcro.  You’ll need more of this so your leash will be size-adjustable.  Lay adjacent to the end of the looped velcro piece.  Sew in place, then trim off any stray threads.

8
To use your Tippy Sippy leash, wrap the looped end around the high chair bar. Thread the Velcro end through the loop.  Pull tight to form a knot.  With the Velcro on the outside, wrap the ribbon around the cup, thread the end of the ribbon through the D-ring, and fold back on itself to attach Velcro.

9
To remove, undo the Velcro and loosen the knot.  I like to wash these in the top rack of my dishwasher.

Thanks so much for this! I just whipped out 2 of these during my son’s nap :-)
He has Down syndrome, so at 14mo, he doesn’t understand “don’t throw your cup on the floor”. He does it after each sip! So, I’ve been thinking of doing this and your tutorial made it sooo easy. I just started sewing this past summer and I’m having so much fun! I’ve attached some pics of mine. Found that I didn’t have ribbon wide enough, so I made my own strips from leftover train fabric I had. Added elastic to the cup side because it was too small when I was finished sewing, but it worked great :-) thanks again!

Going to the store to get the supplies to make the shopping cart cover and the Tippy Sippy Cup Leash for my youngest granddaughter. Love your tutorials. I will post pictures when I am finished.
